Audi TTS Roadster 2019 in-depth review.

This is the Audi TT Roadster and it's a

little bit like a set of hair

straighteners in the way they can

according to some people at least make

you look a little bit like a hairdresser

I obviously don't agree with that at all

no now you're probably considering one

of these cars if you're also looking at

something like a Porsche Boxster or a

BMW z4 and obviously the cool looks do

come at a price this thing starts from

33,000 pounds now to make sure you're

paying the right price for a new car

let's not this review by talking about

the design because I should point out

that this is the TTS version so it has

some extra sporty styling bits and

pieces for instance a squad tailpipes

unique bumpers with some extra sport

that's a trim as well there's 19 inch

bespoke alloy wheels for this car and

some more spoil bits down the side the

entry-level sport doesn't quite look as

cool and here's a quick look at it now

the next level up is the S line and that

has its own unique bumper design as well

looks a bit more sporty than the sport

it doesn't make any sense really does it

but anyway recently ID has refreshed the

look of the TT so it has a new grille

and contry tell the difference from the

old car really this TTS does have a

slightly snazzier grille with this

metallic bits of trim on it as well and

of course

TTS badging good-looking car though

regardless of which model you go for but

I think the best thing about it is the

interior I love the interior design of

this car so I really like the design

it's super simple one of the things that

makes it so simple is the fact your

infotainment screen is actually here in

front of the driver there's nothing here

at all another thing I do like is this

look you actually have the climate

controls in the air vent I even like the

way that the vents themselves are like a

jet engine turbine in fact the whole

design is super super cool the metal

bits here in here which make it feel

expensive like the frameless rear view

mirror that's a lovely and then there's

a quality so it's really squidgy

high-quality materials appear even here

and all the way down on the door bins

soft as well and everything feels super

super solid I mean look at this this

centre console will not budge at all it

is really really well screwed together

this car now though let's talk about the

specs entry-level sport models get a

digital drivers

display rear parking sensors and lose

control s-line versions add cool

scrolling indicators lovely super sports

seats with electric lumbar support oh

yeah comfy and lowered stiffened

suspension though you don't actually

have to have it if you don't want to and

I shouldn't if I were you because it

does make the car look a bit too bumpy

then there's a TTS which gets leather

here and leather here and fine nappa

leather for the seats for some extra

softness it also gets adjustable

suspension with a comfort setting for a

softer ride and a dynamic setting for a

sportier firmer ride finally there's the

Black Edition cars which add bits of

black trim to the side skirts to the

bumpers and black exhaust pipes plus a

low whirls up to 20 inches in diameter

now then let's talk about the

infotainment systems so you can control

it using this rotary doll and you're

going to want to use that if you're

doing things like inputting a

destination into the satellite

navigation and it is reasonably easy to

use so you can scroll through or you can

actually write using this touchpad and

it finds your route pretty quickly it

gives you three different options

fastest the most direct or the most

economical also it's dead easy to input

a waypoint along the way if you want to

now I wouldn't use this controller for

any of the other functions I would use

the ones on the steering wheel cause

it's just so much easier when you're

driving to just whip along between

different settings and you can change

the view if you want to go widescreen

which is really handy when you're

following the satellite navigation also

this TTS version I should point out has

its own unique dials a bit more sporty

but there is one problem with this whole

setup though it's the fact that if you

want your passenger to set stuff up for

you on the sat-nav like they will be

able to normally they can't because I

can't see bugger all oh well now let's

talk about other areas of practicalities

so first thing to note is this and the

door bins may not look that useful but

actually look that is a 1/2 litre Bowl

and you can carry that in there if you

want to also you do have a cup holder

here and you might be thinking long it's

quite deep what happens if you have one

of the smaller cups well there'll be

nobody to have to constantly by the

larger cup of coffee but no forgetting

here flip that out it's just about the

right size for a smaller cup

which is handy who else is handling this

you have a place for your key dere and

there's some more storage under here and

there's a place for your mobile phone on

this TTS model you get wireless charging

as standard is now charging my mobile

phone there's some connectivity down

they got two USB and an aux in as well

which is handy and there's some more

storage just here as well for another

bottle of water because I'm just crazy

about bottles of water whereas the

glovebox isn't all right size and it

will fit the hair straighteners which is

very very very important other things I

need to show you is this there's lots of

adjustment in the steering wheel which

is good can also put the seat quite a

way back as well so if you're tall

that's handy with the roof up you have

to trust me

if you're ever six-foot you will be fine

that is enough Headroom because you

can't get the seat reasonably low it's

not the lowest slung sports car I have

to tell you that now if you need to

carry passengers there's only room for

one but fortunately the cabins quite

wide so you don't feel too kind of

hemmed in also you can carry a child

seat because there's ice fix on the

points just down there which is handy so

yeah you can fire a child see relatively

easy it's that easy to install actually

if you've got the roof off if you

haven't is a little bit trickier now

let's move on to the boot so welcome is

no surprise to you that this roasters

boot is smaller than the coupe a version

of the TTS

and it's actually pange on the same

capacity as being to be said for and a

Porsche Boxster when you add up its

front and rear boots the shape of it

isn't ideal though for instance it's

quite shallow here so your limited is

what you can squeeze into it so the

opening isn't huge either but look I can

just about squeeze this suitcase in

there but what else can you fit there's

room for one large suitcase and one soft

bag or a small suitcase a baby buggy and

a soft bag the TT's boot can also fit a

set of golf clubs in terms of features

in the boot while I'll just have to show

you how to get this back out because

there was a small amount of underfloor

storage there as a 12 volt socket for

maybe plugging in a drinks cooler little

struck there for god knows what and some

tethering points not that you can do

much tethering in this kind of car but

yeah it's a roaster it's not the most

practical but you kind of knew that

anyway didn't yeah

actually there's more annoying things

about this car

he's five from parking sensors aren't

standard on any trims as with most out

is you have to pay for some options

because you don't want to damage this

beautiful things the vanity mirror is

just so small there is absolutely no way

you can do your air in it summarize it

made me round to blocks them from the

side but if you're in your normal

driving position you'll see how useless

they are ah and now I'm blind you can't

get auto emergency braking on any model

at all which is a little bit unusual

these days the electrically operated

seat doesn't quite know where its limits

are so you can actually love it against

the backrest when you're trying to move

it into position he makes this horrible

noise it's probably doing some damage to

the motors as well

okay my car so hey it's not all negative

though here's five good things about

this car the fuel filler cap not only

looks super cool but you can just slot

your nozzle straight into it unlike many

other roadsters this car hasn't

electrically operated when deflect

so while you're driving along you can

choose to have it either up or down

depending on how much wind in the hair

thrills you laughter in this roadster

version of the TT the black leather

seats are actually given a special

pigment which prevents them overheating

in the Sun so they don't burn your bum

when you get in you can get special neck

warmers which blow hot air and the back

in there you can hear it

yeah

towstee you can put the roof up at

speeds of up to 30 miles an hour

look there's car buyer hey Tandy if it's

an assault rating while you're driving

along and you don't want have to stop

the engine choice is the ID TT Roadster

are very very simple there's only one

and it's a 2-liter turbo petrol now you

can get it as the 40 psi then it has 200

horsepower could do not 60 in around 7

seconds then there is the 45 TSI which

has children 45 horse spanking it from

nought to 60 in about 6 seconds now all

models come with the manual gearbox is

standard but you can upgrade to a

7-speed automatic and the higher power

engine is available with Quattro

all-wheel drive but only as an automatic

however this car is the TTS and it's

2-liter turbocharged petrol has 306

horsepower it also gets the automatic

gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive is

standard and you get from nought to 60

in just 4.7 ZnO you do have to pay for

that because this car starts from 46,000

pounds so make sure you click on the

pop-up banner and just up there in the

top right corner of the screen

how quick this car is to 60 miles an

hour so I'm gonna time it using most

specialist timing equipment up there put

the kind to drive while the gear sector

down want to put into sports mode for

the gearbox the drive select into

dynamic mode the stability control into

sports mode now just hold on the brake

throw the throttle wait for that sound

then release the brake

four-wheel drive tractions good it's not

bad ace that's over and naught to 60 in

4.4 seconds

that's quite quick you want to go

quicker you need a Porsche Boxster GTS

like to drive in town when you're not

holding it around so I'm gonna put the

roof up I want to see what the

visibility is like when the roof down

does affect things okay so actually yeah

it's quite dark in here now one thing I

have noticed is that over bumps this car

is pretty good the standard suspension

is actually alright do not have the load

stiffened setup because it is more bumpy

this adapter setup is good as well just

got that comfort mode in comfort mode

you have lighter steering as well which

I quite like makes it more money for

this car actually it's really good for

you turns it's got a leader turning

circle then a Volkswagen golf's it's

dead easy to drive around town no then I

want to see what it's like to park so

here's a space it's quite short car

having the reefer does have the things

now it's got a big blind spot you can

probably see just there behind me on the

other side this is the auto and it can

be a bit jerky when you're just trying

to maneuver at low speeds the manuals

better for this kind of thing and the

man was actually really nice to use

actually oh oh I have to load this

mirror so I can see what's going on

wish it did it automatically BMWs Dave

I'm totally relying on the camera and

the sensors here and this is really hard

when you're getting close to a car this

jerky gearbox just almost certainly just

catapults you a nearby vehicle because

it kind of does nothing and then he

tooks accelerate and then it moves

forward suddenly like that there we go I

did it wasn't the easiest because of

that gearbox but actually not too bad at

all you are gonna need the sensors and

the camera helps as well yeah anyway

let's get this roof down and drive a

little bit quicker it's really good just

me not to do this there we go we go this

a dtt Rosie's actually quite good on the

motorway with the roof up it's fairly

quiet

you did get bit wind noise from there

but it's not too bad obviously with the

roof down you get a lot more wind noise

but that's what you want however you can

reduce it by putting the optional wind

deflector up then actually listen it's

not too bad at all the car actually

feels pretty composed when you're going

quickly as well and the seats are nice

and comfortable and if you need to

overtake someone I'm doing 50 miles an

hour if I floor it this TTS the gearbox

does kick down pretty quickly and that's

70 already it doesn't hang about too

much that's driving it in normal comfort

mode as well all in all very good but

what about the economy well I'm getting

that's really good actually so how does

this add CT fare when he got on a twisty

road well it's actually really really

good it just grips so well and you can

tell what's going on it's it's all very

predictable all very safe and sturdy got

the Quattro all-wheel drive you've got a

bit more grip to help you out

front-wheel drive only cars will start

to run out of ideas if you push them a

bit too hard into a slippery Bend but

generally they're fine I will say this

though while it is quick and it is

capable and it is reassuring it doesn't

quite have the same element of fun that

you get with the rear drive BMW z4 which

is a little bit more Larry bit more

muscular to me now if you want to see

quite good actually so then what's my

final verdict on Aldi TT Roadster should

you avoid it should you consider it

should you shortlist it well she just go

right ahead and buy it well I reckon you

should shortlist the TT Roadster it

might not be the most threatening nor

the most masculine sports car but it's a

great random do you agree my verdict let
